The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory
by Yvonne H. Chow, Education Director
(New York., NY, USA)
As seen on The Today Show, MTV and BET, The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory is the only conservatory for hip-hop dance in the country. You receive a quality education in hip-hop dance that will propel you into a successful career as a dance professional. What better place to develop your skill as a dancer than an institution centered around the most ubiquitous art-form…Hip-Hop? We accept dancers from all genres, so proficiency in hip-hop dance specifically is not required, yet some formal dance training (in any art-form) is a must. We will provide the skill needed, you provide the raw talent.
Our Teaching Methodology: The BLADE Technique
The BLADE Technique was founded by American Hip-Hop Dance pioneer, Safi A. Thomas, in the late 20th century. Inspired by his earlier tutelage in modern dance, primarily the Graham Technique, as well as martial arts, The BLADE Technique is the only codified technique used to teach Hip-Hop Dance. This technique proves that anyone can be a Hip-Hop dancer despite experience, race, sex, gender, age or socioeconomic status because dance is first a mental process that anyone can attain. It is only after achieving a deeper understanding of one’s self as well as accountability over one’s education, that dancers notice a greater control over the body which is applied to the physical aspect of dance.
