Well, no wonder they spell it differently so that it doesn’t come across as a school kid kinda brand. Akademiks is something more than that ’cause it targets the urban youth and the clothing variety that it offers is simply is like “Ooh La La!!!” (Aite,,,it wasn’t meant to sound that way), but you get the picture. So playas, the catch is that when it comes to hip hop fashion, Akademiks has it all. Oh yea…so picture this, walkin in to the club, putting on them Akademiks, hell yea my peeps, you got it all going all. If you see that happening, you just cant go wrong now can you?

Why Akademiks you ask, well, why not I say. Apart from the fact that Akademiks clothes has a style of its own, its just so “oh so sheik”. So how did it all start in the first place? The Akademiks brand was started by two brothers, Emmett and Donwan Harrell, with a few of their partners of course. This brand came to be noticed by the urban youth by hip hop artist Fabolous when he went on to advertise this brand in his lyrics. Hell, he even went on to wear the Akademiks clothing on the inside cover of his album (damn, no wonder this brand is a rage). Well, just as hip hop has its share of controversies, Akademiks too is not left far behind, but hey, that has just increased its popularity among the youth who look up to the hip hop culture.

The part that sparked off a controversy was the brand’s tag line which said “Read Books, Get Brain”. For those of you peeps don’t know what “Get Brain” means, well, let’s just say it’s slang for something we know as “oral sex”. That was in 2005 but since then, the brand has been clean of any such controversies. Then of course, the popularity of this brand also stands tall because of the fact that many rappers who wear this brand with 50 cent and Dizzie Rascal to name a few.

Lets see what all does this brand has to offer the urban youth. Apparel like leather stud tees, peak embro jeans, warlord embroidered jackets, rugby tees, etc. and when we say “etc” we mean a lot more. And when it comes to jeans, boy do they take their work seriously or what. Jeans like the brawl print jeans, leather stud bling jeans, etc. and of course, how could we even leave out the Brand’s own PRPS jeans (now thats what I call denim).
